THREAD Selected as Technology Platform Provider for Decentralized Research Programs
Thread partners with Allucent on their award with BARDA’s innovative research program
CARY, N.C., 08 OCTOBER 2024 –Thread, a leading decentralized research and electronic clinical outcome assessment (eCOA) provider, announced today that it is partnering with global clinical research organization Allucent to support their new award with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Thread will assist Allucent with 1) PROJECT REMOTE (REimagining Measurements and Operations of Translational Endpoints), which is a decentralized home focus COVID-19 vaccine study and 2) their Decentralized Clinical Operations for Healthcare and Research (D-COHRe) program award.
PROJECT REMOTE plans to enroll 4,000 participants via a decentralized Phase IV observational study to evaluate correlates of protections (CoP) following vaccination with an FDA-approved or authorized COVID-19 vaccine. Allucent will assess the feasibility of remote, self-collected specimens for CoP analysis and integrate wearable devices to potentially forecast COVID-19 infections. Allucent will be utilizing the Thread decentralized and eCOA-based research platform in this trial. In parallel, work on the D-COHRe program has begun with BARDA.
The D-COHRe award is a 5-year agreement aimed at enhancing innovation and accelerating decentralized clinical trials for medical countermeasure development. As part of Allucent’s D-COHRe award, Thread will provide decentralized research consulting services. Allucent will also work with Thread to implement a variety of enhancements to the Thread technological platform and suite of configurable integrations to support industry-leading participant and research site experiences for programs focused on preparing for public health emergencies and pandemics. In addition, Thread’s Patient-Centered Outcomes Research solutions will provide scientific expertise in endpoint development and outcomes selection.
"The COVID pandemic accelerated the shift of decentralized research approaches from cutting-edge innovations to mainstream practices. We now have an unprecedented opportunity to realize their potential and leverage these approaches to better prepare for future pandemics and public health emergencies. We are proud to provide our expertise and technology platform to contribute to its important research,” said John Reites, co-founder and chief executive officer at Thread.
The PROJECT REMOTE study has been funded in whole or in part with federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services; Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response; Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority; under Other Transaction (OT) number 75A50123D00005/75A50123F61002.The D-COHRe program has been funded in whole or in part with federal funds from the Department of Health and Human Services; Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response; Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority; Division of Research, Innovation and Ventures (“DRIVe”), under Agreement number: 75A50124C00025.
